Opening tonight, “Ensemble” is a fundraiser exhibition for the Benjamin Mecz Foundation, a group show featuring works contributed by more than 60 artists – Mecz’s friends, colleagues, fellow students and teachers. The artists joined forces and donated artworks for the exhibition in order to support the foundation, established in loving memory of the artist Benjamin Mecz, who met an untimely death six months ago. The foundation wishes to promote the arts and give back to the creative community.

Mecz, a French-born installation artist and sculptor, was at the prime of his artistic career and studied at the Master of Fine Arts program at Bezalel Academy. Earlier this month, the graduate exhibition of the M.F.A program included a sound installation dedicated to Mecz and realized by his friends, as well as a video work that was created by Mecz and was presented in his studio. The new foundation honouring his memory and powered by the Keren BaKtana organization will support up and coming artists and assist newcomers to forge their artistic path in Israel.

The exhibition, curated by Laura Schwartz, is a collective endeavour initiated by his friends in the local art community. The exhibition includes collaborative works – “Girl with a Guilt Necklace,” a photograph that Mecz took of the artist Aleksandra Wilczynska and “Co-Work,” a screen print on holographic foil by Naama Bar Or, recreating a drawing in Mecz’s sketchbook. Several works were created in memoriam of the artist or evoke fond memories of him. Come and support the foundation’s noble cause at Herzl 16, from 19:00 onwards.

Thursday, June 28 – 10:00-22:00
